Rates used (2026/27) and assumptions

- England, Wales, NI: 20% to £50,270, 40% to £125,140, 45% above. Scotland: 19% to £3,967 of taxable income, 20% to £16,956, 21% to £31,092, 42% to £62,430, 45% to £125,140, 48% above.
- Employee Class 1 NI (category A): 8% between £12,570 and £50,270, 2% above. Worked out annually; real payroll works per pay period, so months with a bonus can differ.
- Student loans: 9% above Plan 1 £26,900, Plan 2 £29,385, Plan 4 £33,795, Plan 5 £25,000; Postgraduate 6% above £21,000.
- Relief at source: your provider adds 20%; higher-rate relief is given by extending your bands. Salary sacrifice also saves NI.
- Pension % is of salary (not bonus). For relief at source, enter what comes out of your pay; your provider adds 25% on top (the 20% basic-rate relief).
- Not included: tax code adjustments, benefits in kind, Marriage Allowance, Blind Person’s Allowance, Welsh rate differences (currently same as England).
